High Priests Named Amariah

The most prominent bearers of this name were high priests. One Amariah appears in the line of Aaron through Eleazar, as the son of Meraioth and father of Ahitub, from whom Zadok descended. Another Amariah served as chief priest under King Jehoshaphat, exercising authority "in all matters of the Lord" and supporting that king's religious reforms. A later Amariah was also a high priest, the son of Azariah and father of another Ahitub.

Other Notable Individuals
