History
Summary
The record of past events, which in biblical perspective reveals God's sovereign activity in human affairs.
☩Biblical View
Unlike cyclical views of history common in ancient paganism, the Bible presents history as linear—moving purposefully from creation through fall toward redemption and consummation. God is sovereign over nations: 'He made all the nations... and He marked out their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands' (Acts 17:26). Historical books like Kings and Chronicles interpret events theologically, showing how faithfulness or unfaithfulness to God shaped Israel's destiny.
