Jehohanan

יְהוֹחָנָן/jeh-hoh-HAY-nan/

Jehovah is gracious, or Jehovah has been gracious

Summary

A Hebrew name meaning 'Jehovah is gracious' or 'Jehovah has been gracious,' borne by at least eight different men in the Old Testament, including a Levitical doorkeeper, a military captain, and several priests.

Name and Etymology

The Hebrew name יְהוֹחָנָן (Yehochanan) means 'Jehovah is gracious' or 'Jehovah has been gracious,' equivalent to the Greek Θεόδωρος (Theodoros). It is the full form of the more common names Johanan and John, which carry the same meaning. The Septuagint renders it variously as Ἰωνάν (Ionan) or Ἰωανάν (Ioanan).
