Sons of David

Two of David's sons born in Jerusalem appear to bear this name in the Chronicles genealogies, though one may be a variant of Elishua. The difficulty arises from comparing the lists in Samuel and Chronicles, where the names appear differently.

Other Bearers

An Elishama served as scribe (secretary) under King Jehoiakim, in whose chamber Baruch's scroll of Jeremiah's prophecies was kept before being burned. Another Elishama 'of the seed royal' was grandfather of Ishmael who assassinated Gedaliah the governor. A priest named Elishama was one of those sent by Jehoshaphat to teach the Law throughout Judah. A descendant of Judah named Elishama appears in the genealogies.
