Whom God made

Summary

The name of two men in the Old Testament: a priest who put away his foreign wife, and a son of Shaphan who carried Jeremiah's letter to the Babylonian exiles.

Elasah, Son of Shaphan

One Elasah was a son of Shaphan, one of two men sent on a diplomatic mission by King Zedekiah to Nebuchadnezzar at Babylon after the first deportation from Jerusalem. At the same time, they carried the prophet Jeremiah's letter to the Jewish captives in Babylon, counseling them to settle down and seek the welfare of the city where they had been carried, for their exile would last seventy years. The name in Hebrew is identical with Eleasah.
