Chenaanah

כְּנַעֲנָה/keh-NAY-uh-nuh/

Feminine form of Canaan, or 'merchant'

Summary

The name of two men in the Old Testament—a Benjamite warrior and the father of the false prophet Zedekiah who opposed Micaiah.

Persons Named Chenaanah

Two men bear this name in Scripture. The first was the fourth-named of the seven sons of Bilhan, son of Jediael, of the tribe of Benjamin, a leading warrior in the time of David. The second and more notable was the father of the false prophet Zedekiah, who encouraged King Ahab to go to battle at Ramoth-gilead against the warning of the true prophet Micaiah. Zedekiah made iron horns as a dramatic prophecy, declaring that Ahab would push the Syrians until they were consumed—a false prediction that led to Ahab's death.
