Security

/se-KYOOR-ih-tee/

Summary

In Scripture, primarily a warning against false confidence—the dangerous spiritual state of feeling safe while ignoring God and trusting in earthly things.

False Security Condemned

Scripture repeatedly warns against carnal security—the false confidence that comes from trusting in wealth, position, or circumstances rather than God. The prosperous fool builds bigger barns not knowing his soul will be required that night. Babylon declared 'I shall be a lady forever' and 'I am, and there is none beside me,' yet destruction came upon her suddenly.

Characteristics of False Security

Those in false security are ignorant of God and truth, trusting in lies and earthly treasures. They are inconsiderate and forgetful of their mortality and accountability to God. This self-deception leads to spiritual blindness, where people believe themselves rich and in need of nothing while actually being 'wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.'

True Security in God

Genuine security comes only from trusting in the Lord. The righteous are 'bold as a lion' and 'shall not be afraid of evil tidings' because their hearts are fixed, trusting in God. This security is not presumption but confident faith in God's promises, character, and protection.
