Confidence

/KON-fih-dens/

Summary

Trust placed in others, which may be betrayed, or trust placed in God, which is never misplaced.

Betrayed Confidence

Scripture records many instances of betrayed confidence: Joshua was deceived by the Gibeonites, Eglon was killed by Ehud whom he trusted, and David's betrayal of Ahimelech led to the priest's death. Joab killed both Abner and Amasa while pretending friendship.

Confidence in God

In contrast to human unreliability, God is worthy of complete confidence. Those who trust in Him will not be put to shame. He is a refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
