Promotion(raise)

/proh-MOH-shun/

Summary

Scripture teaches that promotion comes from God alone, who raises the humble and brings down the proud according to His sovereign purposes.

Divine Sovereignty

Promotion does not come from the east, west, or south—God is the judge who puts down one and exalts another. The Lord raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap to seat them with princes. This divine prerogative is demonstrated throughout Scripture in the dramatic rises of Joseph, Moses, David, and Daniel.

Key verses:Psalm 75:6-7Psalm 113:7-81 Samuel 2:7-8

Biblical Examples

Joseph rose from imprisoned slave to prime minister of Egypt. Moses was called from shepherding sheep to leading Israel. David went from shepherd boy to king. Daniel ascended from captive to premier in Babylon and Persia. Each case demonstrates God's power to promote whom He chooses, regardless of human circumstances.
