Care(anxiety)
Summary
Anxiety or concern about worldly matters, which Jesus warned can choke the word of God and distract from seeking the kingdom of heaven.
☩Warning Against Worldly Care
Jesus warned against being anxious about food, drink, or clothing, teaching that such worry is characteristic of those who do not know God as Father. The cares of this world are identified in the parable of the sower as one of the influences that choke the word and make it unfruitful. Such distraction of mind draws a person mentally in different directions and prevents spiritual growth.
☩The Remedy for Care
The biblical remedy for anxiety is trust in God's providence and sovereignty. Scripture commands believers to cast all their care upon God, because He cares for them. Paul instructs that in nothing should believers be anxious, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, make their requests known to God. The peace of God then guards heart and mind.
☩Martha's Example
Martha provides a classic example of misplaced care. When Jesus visited her home, she was 'cumbered about much serving' and troubled about many things, while her sister Mary sat at Jesus's feet hearing His word. Jesus gently rebuked Martha, saying that only one thing was needful, and Mary had chosen the good part.
