Chosen(elected)
Summary
Those singled out by God for a particular purpose or salvation, applied to Israel as God's chosen nation and to believers in Christ as the elect.
☩Israel as Chosen
The Hebrew nation was God's chosen people, set apart to receive His word and preserve His worship. God's choice was not based on Israel's merit but on His sovereign love and covenant faithfulness. Jerusalem was chosen to be the seat of the temple, and the tribe of Levi was chosen for priestly service.
☩Christ as Chosen
Christ is supremely the 'chosen' of God, set apart from eternity in the Divine mind as the only fit person to be our mediator and surety. Isaiah prophesied of the Servant in whom God's soul delighted, His elect in whom He placed His Spirit.
☩Believers as Chosen
The apostles were chosen by Christ to bear witness to His resurrection. All believers are described as God's elect, chosen before the foundation of the world. Jesus declared 'Many are called, but few are chosen,' distinguishing between the general call of the gospel and God's effectual calling of His own.
