Valley of Decision

/VAL-ee of dee-SIZH-un/

Summary

The Valley of Decision is a prophetic name given by Joel to the place where God will judge the nations, identified with the Valley of Jehoshaphat.

Prophetic Significance

The Valley of Decision (Hebrew Emek he-Charuts, 'vale of the sentence') is poetically given to the Valley of Jehoshaphat as the ideal scene of God's signal judgments upon the enemies of Zion at the restoration of His people. Joel calls the nations to come down, for 'Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.' Based on prophecies like this, Muslims believe the final judgment will occur in this valley, and have left a stone projecting from the city wall as a seat for their prophet in the role of judge.
