Shashak was a Benjamite, the son of Beriah and descendant of Elpaal. He is listed in the genealogy of Benjamin as the father of at least eleven sons, including Ishpan, Eber, Eliel, Abdon, Zichri, Hanan, Hananiah, Elam, Anthothijah, Iphdeiah, and Penuel. All of these were heads of fathers' houses dwelling in Jerusalem.
