Ocran

/OK-ran/

Summary

Ocran was the father of Pagiel, who served as chief of the tribe of Asher during the wilderness wanderings.

Identity

Ocran appears in Scripture only as the father of Pagiel. His son Pagiel (meaning "God is my fortune") led the tribe of Asher during the wilderness period. Pagiel represented Asher in the census, in the dedication offerings for the tabernacle, and in the order of march. Through his son, Ocran's family held a position of leadership during a crucial period of Israel's history.
