Nebuzaradan(nebuzar adan)
Summary
Nebuzaradan was the captain of Nebuchadnezzar's guard who supervised the destruction of Jerusalem and showed kindness to the prophet Jeremiah.
☩Destruction of Jerusalem
Nebuzaradan held the office of 'captain of the guard' under Nebuchadnezzar and personally directed the destruction of Jerusalem after its capture in 586 BC. He burned the house of the Lord, the king's house, and all the houses of Jerusalem. He also broke down the walls of the city and carried away the remnant of the people to Babylon.
☩Treatment of Jeremiah
By order of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan showed special favor to Jeremiah, releasing him from prison and allowing him to choose whether to go to Babylon or remain in the land. He committed Jeremiah to the care of Gedaliah, whom he appointed governor over those left in Judah.
