Malluch

מַלּוּךְ/MAL-uk/

Counsellor or reigned over

Summary

Malluch, meaning 'counsellor' or 'reigned over,' was the name of at least five men in the Old Testament, including a Merarite Levite ancestor of Ethan the singer, and several post-exilic Israelites.

Notable Individuals

The most prominent Malluch was a Levite of the family of Merari, son of Hashabiah and ancestor of Ethan the singer who served in the house of the Lord under David. Two other men named Malluch—one of the sons of Bani and another of the family of Harim—divorced their foreign wives at Ezra's command after the return from exile. A priest named Malluch returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel and may be the same as one who signed the sacred covenant with Nehemiah. Another Malluch, one of the chief Israelites (as distinct from the priests), also sealed that covenant.
