Summary

The name of two Old Testament figures: an Ephraimite ancestor of Joshua and a Levite of the Gershonite family.

Ephraimite Ancestor

Laadan was a descendant of Ephraim mentioned in the genealogy leading to Joshua son of Nun (1 Chronicles 7:26). He appears in the lineage as the son of Tahan, and his name occurs among those who traced their ancestry through Ephraim's line. His position in the genealogy places him several generations before the time of the Exodus.

Gershonite Levite

Another Laadan was a Levite of the family of Gershon (also called Gershom), the eldest son of Levi. He is also called Libni elsewhere in Scripture (1 Chronicles 6:17). In the organization of the Levites under David, Laadan's descendants were assigned specific duties regarding the treasures of the house of the Lord (1 Chronicles 23:7-9; 26:21). His sons included Jehiel, Zetham, and Joel, who had charge of the treasuries of the dedicated things.
