Eliasaph

אֶלְיָסָף/ee-LY-uh-saf/

God has added

Summary

The name of two Israelite leaders during the wilderness period: the prince of the tribe of Gad and the chief of the Gershonite Levites.

Leaders in the Wilderness

One Eliasaph was the son of Deuel (or Reuel) and served as the prince of the tribe of Gad at the time of the census in the wilderness of Sinai. He represented his tribe in the offerings at the dedication of the altar and led them in the order of march. Another Eliasaph, son of Lael, was the chief of the Gershonite Levites during the same period. The name means 'God has added,' perhaps reflecting the parents' gratitude for the gift of a child.
