Achbor

עַכְבּוֹר/AK-bor/

Mouse or gnawing

Summary

The name of an Edomite king's father and a court official under King Josiah who helped inquire of the prophetess Huldah.

Father of Baal-hanan

An Edomite named Achbor was the father of Baal-hanan, one of the eight kings who reigned in Edom before any king ruled over Israel. This shows the antiquity of organized monarchy among the descendants of Esau.

Official Under Josiah

Another Achbor, the son of Micaiah, was one of the officials whom King Josiah sent to consult Huldah the prophetess when the book of the Law was discovered in the temple during its renovation. In the parallel account in Chronicles he is called Abdon the son of Micah. His son Elnathan later served King Jehoiakim, though in a less commendable role—he was sent to Egypt to bring back the prophet Uriah for execution.
