Munitions

Summary

Military fortifications and implements of war, symbolizing divine protection for the righteous.

Biblical Usage

Nahum prophesied against Nineveh: 'Watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily' (Nahum 2:1). Isaiah declared of the righteous: 'He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure' (Isaiah 33:16).

Symbolic Meaning

The 'munitions of rocks' signifies a rocky fortress or stronghold. This imagery portrays God as an impregnable refuge for those who trust Him. The promised security includes both physical protection ('place of defence') and provision ('bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure'). The strong tower of the righteous is inaccessible to their foes.

Divine Fortress

Throughout Scripture, God is portrayed as a fortress: 'The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust' (Psalm 18:2). 'The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe' (Proverbs 18:10). This military imagery assures believers of complete security in God.
