Vigilance
Summary
Vigilance is watchfulness and care to avoid surrounding dangers, required of believers who must guard against spiritual enemies and be ready for Christ's return.
☩Christian Watchfulness
Vigilance involves constant alertness against the insinuations of Satan, the allurements of the world, the deceitfulness of our hearts, and false doctrines. Scripture commands believers to watch at all times, in all places, and under all circumstances. This includes watching for the providence of God, the fulfillment of prophecy, God's time for deliverance from troubles, and watching unto prayer. Most importantly, Christians must watch for death and judgment, maintaining readiness for Christ's return at any moment. The king of Jericho exemplified worldly vigilance when he investigated the Israelite spies.
