Abraham made a covenant with Abimelech at Beersheba. Jacob and Laban set up a pillar as witness to their treaty. Joshua was deceived into making a treaty with the Gibeonites. Solomon made treaties with surrounding nations, including marriage alliances. The prophets often condemned Israel for seeking help from Egypt and Assyria rather than trusting the Lord.
