Self Exaltation
Summary
Lifting oneself up in pride, claiming superiority, or seeking glory that belongs to God alone—a sin that brings divine judgment.
☩Definition
Self-exaltation is inordinate and unreasonable self-esteem, attended with contempt for others. It manifests in praising ourselves, attempting to appear superior, treating others with disdain, anxiety to gain applause, and opposition to God himself. 'Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.'
☩Biblical Examples
Pharaoh exalted himself against God and Israel. Korah, Dathan, and Abiram rose up against Moses, claiming equal holiness. Sennacherib boasted against the living God. The prince of Tyre made himself as God. Nebuchadnezzar declared, 'Is not this great Babylon, that I have built?' and was humbled for seven years. Belshazzar lifted himself against the Lord of heaven.
☩New Testament Warnings

The man of sin 'exalteth himself above all that is called God.' Christ teaches: 'Whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.'
