“Light or fire”
Summary
An ancient city in Chaldea from which Abraham emigrated, and also a man who was the father of one of David's mighty warriors.
☩The City of Ur
Ur of the Chaldees was Abraham's native city, the place from which Terah and his family set out toward Canaan. Located in southern Mesopotamia, it was one of the most ancient cities of Chaldea, situated on the Euphrates River near its junction with the Tigris. The city was sacred to the moon goddess, and cuneiform inscriptions reveal it was called 'Hur' by the natives. Archaeological excavations at modern Mugheir have uncovered remains of a great temple built in stages similar to the Tower of Babel.
