Perez Uzza

פֶּרֶץ עֻזָּא/PEE-rez UZ-uh/

Breach of Uzzah

Summary

Perez Uzza was the name given to the place where Uzzah died after touching the ark of God.

The Location

When David attempted to bring the ark to Jerusalem on a cart, Uzzah touched the ark to steady it when the oxen stumbled, and God struck him dead. David named the place Perez Uzzah ('breach of Uzzah' or 'outbreak against Uzzah') to memorialize the event, which caused David to fear and leave the ark at the house of Obed-Edom.
