“Second or second quarter”
Summary
A mistranslation of a Hebrew word meaning 'second quarter'—a district of Jerusalem where the prophetess Huldah lived.
☩The Second Quarter
The word translated 'college' in older versions actually means 'second' or 'second quarter.' It refers to a district of Jerusalem where the prophetess Huldah resided when King Josiah sent messengers to consult her about the book of the law discovered in the temple. This quarter was probably the lower city or suburb built on the hill Akra, including the newer section of Jerusalem. The Revised Version correctly renders this as 'second quarter.' The same term appears in Zephaniah 1:10 and Nehemiah 11:9.
