Tebah
“Slaughter”
☩Family Background
Tebah was the eldest of four sons born to Nahor, Abraham's brother, through his concubine Reumah. While Nahor's wife Milcah bore him eight sons, including Bethuel the father of Rebekah, his concubine Reumah bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah. This information is recorded in the genealogical note that reached Abraham informing him of developments in his extended family back in Mesopotamia.
☩Significance
The mention of Nahor's children, including Tebah, comes in the context of establishing the family connections that would lead to Isaac's marriage to Rebekah. These Aramean relatives of Abraham remained in the region of Haran while Abraham's line continued the covenant promises in Canaan. The name Tebah, meaning 'slaughter,' may indicate he was born during a time of conflict or may have been a common name in that region.
