Jeziel

יְזִיאֵל/JEZ-ee-el/

Assembled by God

Summary

A Benjamite warrior who was among the skilled archers that joined David at Ziklag during his flight from Saul.

One of David's Recruits

Jeziel was a son of Azmaveth who, along with his brother Pelet, joined David's band of loyal followers at Ziklag when David was a fugitive from King Saul. These Benjamite warriors were notable for being ambidextrous—able to use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows with the bow. Though they were kinsmen of Saul and from his own tribe of Benjamin, they chose to defect to David, recognizing God's hand upon him. The name Jeziel means 'assembled by God,' reflecting divine providence in gathering these warriors to David's cause.
