Jemuel
יְמוּאֵל/jeh-MYOO-el/
“Day of God, or daylight of God”
Summary
The eldest son of Simeon who went down to Egypt with Jacob, also known by the variant name Nemuel in later genealogical records.
☩Identity and Genealogy
Jemuel was the firstborn son of Simeon, who was the second son of Jacob and Leah (Genesis 46:10; Exodus 6:15). His name means 'daylight of God.' In the later records of Numbers 26:12 and 1 Chronicles 4:24, the name appears as Nemuel, which is apparently a corruption or variant form, with his descendants being called the Nemuelites. The Syriac version consistently uses 'Jemuel' in all four biblical passages. He lived around 1706 B.C.
