חֲזָיָה/haz-uh-YIE-uh/
“Whom Jehovah beholds or sees”
Summary
Hazaiah, meaning "whom Jehovah beholds," was a man of Judah from the family of Shelah (Shilonites) who lived after the Babylonian exile.
☩In Post-Exilic Jerusalem
Hazaiah appears in Nehemiah's list of those who dwelt in Jerusalem after the return from Babylon. He was the son of Adaiah and father of Colhozeh, belonging to the descendants of Pharez through the line of Shelah. His presence in Jerusalem indicates his family's commitment to resettling the holy city when many preferred to remain in the surrounding towns.
