Hasadiah

חֲסַדְיָה/has-uh-DYE-uh/

Beloved of Jehovah or favored by Jehovah

Summary

Hasadiah, meaning "beloved of Jehovah," was one of the sons or descendants of Zerubbabel in the royal line of David after the Babylonian exile.

Post-Exilic Royal Line

Hasadiah appears in the genealogy of David's descendants as one of the sons (or grandsons) of Zerubbabel, the leader who brought the first group of exiles back from Babylon. The name "beloved of Jehovah" reflects the hopeful spirit of the returned exiles, expressing gratitude for God's faithfulness in preserving the royal line through captivity. Some scholars identify him with Jushab-hesed mentioned in the same verse, as the names have similar meanings.
