חַדְלַי/HAD-lay/
“Resting or rest of God”
Summary
Hadlai was an Ephraimite whose son Amasa was one of the leaders who opposed enslaving the Judean captives during the war between Israel and Judah.
☩An Ephraimite Father
Hadlai was the father of Amasa, one of the chiefs of Ephraim in the time of King Pekah of Israel. When Pekah's army returned from defeating Judah with 200,000 captives, the prophet Oded rebuked them for intending to enslave their brethren. Amasa and three other Ephraimite leaders stood up against the army and insisted the captives be released, clothed, fed, and returned to Jericho.
