Becher
בֶּכֶר/BEE-ker/
“Firstborn, or young camel”
☩Son of Benjamin
Becher appears as the second son of Benjamin in the genealogical lists, though some textual difficulties exist regarding his position. The name may mean 'firstborn' or 'young camel.' His descendants included notable families; from his line came Abiah, ancestor of King Saul.
Key verses:Genesis 46:211 Chronicles 7:61 Chronicles 7:8
☩Son of Ephraim
A Becher also appears among the sons of Ephraim, from whom descended the family of Bachrites. Some scholars suggest this may be the same Benjamite Becher whose descendants, through marriage to an Ephraimite heiress, came to be reckoned with Ephraim's tribe for inheritance purposes.
Key verses:Numbers 26:351 Chronicles 7:20
