Amoz
אָמוֹץ/AY-mahz/
“Strong”
Summary
The father of the prophet Isaiah, traditionally believed to be of royal lineage as the brother of King Amaziah of Judah.
☩Identity
Amoz was the father of Isaiah, the great prophet who ministered during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. According to rabbinical tradition, he was the son of King Joash and brother of King Amaziah, which would have made Isaiah of royal blood. The rabbis also asserted that when Scripture names the father of a prophet, it indicates that the father himself possessed the gift of prophecy. Amoz was a resident of Jerusalem.
