A military captain of Judah who volunteered himself to the Lord's service under King Jehoshaphat.

Identity and Service

Amasiah was the son of Zichri and a chieftain of the tribe of Judah during the reign of Jehoshaphat. He is notable for having "willingly offered himself unto the Lord" as a captain, commanding 200,000 chosen troops in support of Jehoshaphat's religious reforms. His voluntary consecration to divine service exemplifies the spirit of dedication that characterized the best of Jehoshaphat's kingdom.
