Summary
Tumors (emerods in KJV) were one of the plagues God sent upon the Philistines when they captured the Ark of the Covenant.
☩Plague on the Philistines
When the Philistines captured the Ark, God struck them with tumors (possibly hemorrhoids or bubonic plague swellings). The affliction spread from Ashdod to Gath to Ekron. To appease God, the Philistines sent the Ark back with golden images of tumors and mice as guilt offerings. The plague demonstrated that the God of Israel was more powerful than Dagon.
