Several types of pans are mentioned in Scripture: the frying pan for boiling or deep frying, the flat plate or griddle for baking cakes and bread, and the iron pan used in preparing certain offerings. The 'ash-pans' connected with the altar of burnt-offering were made of copper. Iron plates were commonly laid on small ovens for baking bread and cakes.
