Beheading was not prescribed in Mosaic law but became known to Israel through contact with other nations. John the Baptist was beheaded in the Roman manner at Herod's command. James the brother of John was executed by Herod Agrippa. Revelation speaks of those beheaded for their testimony of Jesus who will reign with Christ.
