Sivan was the third month of the Hebrew sacred year, extending from the new moon of June to the new moon of July. The name is of Persian origin, adopted during the Babylonian exile along with other month names. It appears only once in Scripture, in the book of Esther.

☩Significance
During the month of Sivan, on the sixth day, the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) was traditionally celebrated, commemorating the giving of the Law at Sinai and later the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. King Ahasuerus's decree permitting the Jews to defend themselves was issued in Sivan.
