Sinlessness
Summary
The unique moral perfection of Christ, who alone was 'without sin'—confirmed by friends, enemies, and His own consciousness.
☩Testimony of Scripture
'Ye know that he was manifested to take away sins; and in him is no sin.' Peter called Him 'the Holy and Righteous One' and declared 'Christ also suffered for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous.' Paul wrote: 'Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf.' Hebrews describes Him as 'holy, guileless, undefiled, separated from sinners.'
☩Testimony of Observers
John the Baptist forbade Jesus, saying 'I have need to be baptized of thee.' Peter shrank away: 'Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.' Even enemies testified: the centurion exclaimed 'Certainly this was a righteous man'; Pilate's wife called Him 'this just man'; Pilate declared 'I find no fault in him'; Judas confessed he had betrayed 'innocent blood.'
☩Christ's Own Testimony
'Which of you convicteth me of sin?' This was a general challenge concerning His whole life and conduct. He also declared: 'He that sent me is with me: he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him.' Unlike all other religious leaders, Jesus never confessed sin or asked forgiveness.
