Indecision(double minded)

/in-dih-SIZH-un/

Summary

Wavering between two positions, particularly condemned in Scripture when it involves hesitation between God and idols.

Elijah's Challenge

On Mount Carmel, Elijah confronted Israel's indecision: 'How long halt ye between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.' The people's silence revealed their wavering condition. Such indecision dishonors God who demands exclusive allegiance.

Key verses:1 Kings 18:21

The Double-Minded

James warns that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways and should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person asks but wavers, like a wave driven by the wind. Faith requires settled conviction and commitment, not perpetual hedging.

Key verses:James 1:6-8James 4:8

Call to Decision

Scripture consistently calls for decisive commitment. Joshua challenged Israel: 'Choose you this day whom ye will serve.' Jesus declared that no one can serve two masters. The Christian life requires wholehearted devotion, not halfhearted vacillation.
