Hygiene

Summary

Practices promoting cleanliness and health, which the Mosaic law addressed through various purity regulations.

Mosaic Regulations

The law included numerous hygienic provisions: washing after contact with corpses or bodily discharges (Leviticus 15), quarantine for skin diseases (Leviticus 13-14), proper disposal of human waste outside the camp (Deuteronomy 23:12-14), and prohibition of eating animals that died naturally (Deuteronomy 14:21). While these had spiritual significance regarding purity before God, they also provided practical health benefits that modern medicine confirms.
