Joshua's covenant with the Gibeonites was made because they 'did work wilily'—dissembling by pretending to be from a distant land. Peter dissembled at Antioch by withdrawing from Gentiles, leading Barnabas and others astray. Paul withstood him publicly for this hypocrisy.
