Coercion
/koh-UR-zhun/
Summary
The use of force or threats to compel behavior, contrary to the biblical pattern of voluntary service and free response to God's grace.
☩Biblical Principle
While Scripture recognizes the legitimate use of civil authority to restrain evil, genuine faith and service to God cannot be coerced. Jesus invited people to follow Him voluntarily, and Paul taught that giving should be willing rather than forced. The rich young ruler was allowed to walk away when he would not follow.
