Shilhim

שִׁלְחִים/SHIL-him/

Fountains; or armed men

Summary

A city in the southern portion of Judah's territory, also known as Sharuhen and Shaaraim.

Location and Identification

Shilhim was a city in the southern portion of Judah's allotment, mentioned between Lebaoth and Ain. The same location appears under different names in parallel passages: Sharuhen in the list of Simeon's cities and Shaaraim in Chronicles. Whether these represent scribal variations or actual name changes over time is uncertain. Some scholars have attempted to connect Shilhim and its neighboring Ain with the Salim and Aenon associated with John the Baptist's ministry, but the location in far southern Judah makes this unlikely.
