Summary

A plain in Moab where the Emim were living when Chedorlaomer and his allied kings attacked and defeated them.

Location and History

Shaveh Kiriathaim is mentioned in Genesis 14:5 as the dwelling place of the Emim at the time of Chedorlaomer's invasion. The name means 'the plain of the double city' or 'the plain of Kiriathaim.' The Emim were a giant people related to the Rephaim, whom Chedorlaomer smote as part of his campaign against the cities of the plain. Kiriathaim itself is mentioned later in Israel's history, though the exact site has not been identified.
