Kehelathah

קְהֵלָתָה/keh-heh-LAY-thah/

Assembly, or gathering

Summary

A desert encampment of the Israelites during their wilderness wanderings, located between Rissah and Mount Shepher.

Wilderness Station

Kehelathah was the twenty-third station of the Israelites during their desert wanderings, situated between Rissah and Mount Shepher. The exact location remains unknown, though some have proposed it was near the mouth of Wady el-Hasana, west of Jebel Achmer. The name itself means "assembly" or "gathering," suggesting this may have been a place where an extraordinary but temporary gathering of Israel occurred. During the 38 years of penal wandering after the rebellion at Kadesh-barnea, the congregation was largely dispersed, with only an organized camp of Levites, priests, and chiefs continuing around the tabernacle. Kehelathah may mark one of those places where Israel assembled for some special purpose.
