Son of Issachar

Shimron was the fourth son of Issachar and the ancestor of the clan called the Shimronites. In 1 Chronicles 7:1 he is called Shimrom, an alternate spelling of the same name.

Canaanite City

Shimron was also a Canaanite city whose king joined the northern confederacy under Jabin king of Hazor against Joshua. The city was conquered and allotted to the tribe of Zebulun. It has been identified with Semunieh, west of Nazareth. In Joshua 12:20 it appears in its fuller form as Shimron-meron.
