An Israelite of the family of Bani who divorced his foreign wife during Ezra's reforms after the Babylonian captivity.

Post-Exilic Reform

Shashai was one of the 'sons' (descendants) of Bani who had married a Gentile wife during the post-exilic period. Under Ezra's leadership in 457 BC, he was among those who divorced their foreign wives as part of the religious purification of Israel. This reform was necessary to maintain the covenant faithfulness of the returned exiles.
