Summary

The name of two men in the Old Testament: a Levite descended from Merari and an Asherite who was also called Shomer.

The Levite

The first Shamer was a Merarite Levite, the son of Mahli and father of Bani, listed in the genealogy of temple musicians. He lived around the time of the wilderness wanderings or early settlement period.

The Asherite

The second Shamer was a son of Heber of the tribe of Asher. He was the father of Ahi and several other children. In the earlier part of the same genealogical passage, he is called Shomer, indicating these are variant spellings of the same name.
